Earthy spherical planters handmade in London by Su Leaver
Commissioned by The Planted House, available here
Made from a dark, gritty clay that when fires is deeply earthy, almost volcanic - the resulting pots appearing like balls of soil.
Su’s ceramics formed an intrinsic part of our installation at Chelsea Flower Show in 2022; floating earthy orbs of hand-built beauty
These work beautifully with our rattan hangers, their shape fitting perfectly into the woven base. Explore more here.
Earthy spherical planters handmade in London by Su Leaver
Long before The Planted House became a reality, my partner gifted me one of Su’s smaller spherical pots.. a serendipitous find in North London. It quickly became home to a Senecio rowleyanus.
A year later, we had opened for business, and asked Sue to supply us with a small range. They quickly became popular; their spherical shape worked beautifully for hanging plants, held within our bespoke braided wire hangers and waxed cotton macrame.
In our early days we sold Su’s own range of ‘bowl like’ smooth glazed planters. Wanting something more unique to the planted house, we commissioned her to create a range of spherical planters using a rich gritty clay.
When fired they have a particularly rugged texture, an almost volcanic quality, accentuating by the ‘torn’ openings. When hung in our wire hangers, they appear like floating balls of soil… their deep earthy tones contrasting well with the vivid greens of foliage. Shop here.
