Philodendron

Native to rainforests of Central & South America. Some species are hemiepiphytic vines climbing up other trees. Others grow as upright shrubs developing erect woody stems

Position - within a warm room in filtered, indirect light away from bright direct sun. Can tolerate shade but growth will be slower

Water - only when top half of compost has dried out a little, keeping the root ball just moist. Never allow pot to sit in water as roots will rot

Humidity - prefers moderate to high

Feed - apply diluted liquid fertiliser twice a month from spring to autumn

- Yellowing leaves indicate overwatering

- Curling or wilting leaves indicate underwatering

- Repot in free draining compost rich in organic matter
