Peperomia
A genus that contains a huge number of species native to sub tropical and tropical regions of varying altitudes throughout Central & South America, and now naturalized in similar regions in Africa and Asia. Growing as vines or compact shrubs, often with semi-succulent leaves and tiny roots, they are either epiphytes, lithophytes, xerophytes or geophytes
Position - in a warm location in bright but filtered light, avoiding direct sun on the leaves. These can tolerate a little direct morning sun, as well as partial shade.
Water - allow approx half the soil to dry between waterings, keeping the tiny root system just moist. The leaves and stems can store water. Do not allow pot to sit in water as roots will rot. Water less in winter
These prefer a more humid environment, but if misting avoid spraying the leaves directly
Feed - apply weak liquid fertiliser monthly from spring to autumn
- Peperomias like good air circulation and dislike being kept damp.
- Yellowing leave or mould growth on soil surface indicate overwatering
- Curling limp leaves with a greyish tone indicate underwatering
